You are in control
Your notebook, itinerary and saved privacy choices support the functions you request. Two categories are optional: external videos and action measurement. You can allow each separately. Refusing them does not prevent you from browsing the site or using your notebook and itinerary.
Accept, refuse or customise
“Accept all” allows external videos and action measurement. “Reject all” allows neither category. “Customize” lets you choose each separately; both boxes are unchecked on your first visit. “Load this video once” allows only that video on that page, without enabling measurement.
Platform storage inventory
- Privacy choices
- The local bxlove-privacy-v1 record contains the choice version, permission or refusal for each category, and the save and expiry dates. It is used to respect your choices and is kept for at most 180 days when your browser allows it. Previous permission for videos does not extend your permission to measurement.
- Storing your measurement choice
- Your choice for external videos and your measurement choice are independent. When your browser allows it, these choices are stored for at most 180 days. Previous permission for videos does not authorise measurement. You can change or withdraw your permission in “Manage my choices”. Measurement remains off without explicit permission.
- Saved notebook
- brussels-carnet-v1: favourites saved locally when you add them. This is a requested service, with no transmission of those favourites to BXLOVE; stored until you or your browser delete them.
- Planned route
- brussels-roadbook-v2: your selected stops, addresses and visit durations, stored locally so you can return to your route. This is a requested service; stored until you or your browser delete them. Opening Google Maps sends it the stops contained in the link.
- Animation preference
- brussels-motion-paused: local choice to pause animations, saved when you request it. An interface preference, stored until you or your browser delete it.
- Winter Wonders invitation
- bxlove-winter2026-seen: first-party session storage on howtovisit.brussels. After you close the invitation or open its page, it remembers that choice for this tab’s session so the invitation does not open again automatically. It contains only a display flag, with no visitor identifier and no analytics or advertising use.
- Third-party video players
- No external player loads before general video permission or your action for a single viewing. Once loaded, the third party may access your IP address, browser information and its own cookies or storage. The names and lifetimes of these trackers depend on the provider and are not controlled by BXLOVE; consult its policy before enabling the player.
Change your mind and delete
“Manage my choices” lets you withdraw permission for videos and measurement: future video loading and measurement submissions are then blocked according to your selection. Counters already aggregated contain no identifier that would allow your contribution to be isolated. Notebook and itinerary data remains local to your browser. Clearing this local data does not remove files already downloaded to your device.
